The habitation spheres were spherical self-contained colony vessels, at least according to the Empire's propaganda. An image of two of these stations being assembled in Coruscant's space construction platforms was included in Pollux Hax's article on the wonders of Imperial Center. Though there is no direct evidence to contradict Hax's statement, some believe that the close resemblance of the "habitation spheres" to the Death Stars is not coincidental. On the other hand, it is known that habitation spheres did provide homes for thousands, a fact ignored by most conspiracy theorists. According to one anecdote, 1,013 cases of severe intestinal distress were reported aboard a habitation sphere, an outbreak attributed to an overtaxed Genetech PIP/2 Systems Control Droid that had cross wired the sphere's sewage drains with its water-flow piping. Either way, to borrow a Wookiee phrase, something about the habitation spheres just doesn't smell right.
